Welcome to Physics Department

The Department of Physics is one of the premier and most sought after departments in the college. It has started its glorious journey since 1963 and in 1975 it was accorded with the provision of teaching honours. In the year 2011 the Govt. of Odisha accorded permission of teaching PG. The relentless endeavour and the untiring endurance of the devoted faculty members have earned a special place for this department in the script of academic achievements of the college.  When the college was conferred upon the status of autonomous, the department designed its own syllabus keeping in view of the imperative trends by making it perfectly tuned with the recent developments in physics. Afterwards, as the model CBCS syllabus has come into effect, the department incorporated new experiments and introduced optional/special papers for the UG and PG programmes by utilizing the flexibility in it while adhering to its guidelines. The time to time revision and consequent approval of the syllabus by the BoS strengthen its academic value and able to address the students’ demand. In recent years, the recruitment of regular staff with research experiences; enthusiastic, dynamic and student friendly attitudes further bolster up the academic ambience of the department. We also have a council of teachers in our department. Any vital decision is taken collectively by this council for the progress and prosperity of the department. Regular meetings are conducted to discuss the plans and proposals brought by any member for the growth of the department. Duties have been distributed among the members of the council related to laboratory, examination, seminars, course management, study tours etc.

The department organizes induction programmes, seminars and study tours regularly to promote integrity & team spirit; to emphasize the importance of research & innovation, to build up self confidence as well as to expose the young budding minds towards practical knowledge. We encourage our students to participate in extra- and co-curricular activities such as games, literary as well as cultural events inside and outside of the college. While we hope the department of physics will remain a source of aspiration for students of the Kandhamal district, we also encourage students outside of the district to join here and cater to their inquisitiveness and hunger for knowledge.

Vision:

To establish a scientific platform for creation of knowledge through teaching, practical and research in physics from UG to PG level and to help in creating a society of human values through logical thinking.

Mission:

  • To offer state of art teachings and other possible academic programmes in Physics.
  • To enhance intellectual properties of the institution and raise its reputation
through quality teaching and possible publications.
  • To develop laboratory facilities with modern equipments at par with other reputed
organisations in order to develop practical based skills and knowledge among students.
  • To become a source of aspiration for a number of students of this backward district coming to cater their inquisitiveness and hunger for knowledge.

Departmental Induction Programme:

The Department conducts induction programme for the freshly admitted students. The motto of the event is to give the message to the newly admitted students about the scope of the physics, facilities they can avail from the Department, rules and regulations, their duties and rights. This promotes brotherhood, unity, integrity and team spirit among the students. Formally the class representatives are also selected through this programme.

Departmental Seminar/ Workshop/Conference organized with details

Seminars are organized by the department on regular basis whereby resource persons are invited and share their experience regarding recent developments in physics. This encourages the students to foster their career in physics, broadens their insights and thinking ability.
