The Athletic Association of Government Autonomous College, Phulbani is a vibrant and integral part of the college’s commitment to holistic student development. Dedicated to fostering a culture of sportsmanship, physical fitness, and healthy competition, the association provides a robust platform for students to explore and excel in various athletic disciplines. We believe that participation in sports not only enhances physical well-being but also instills crucial life skills such as teamwork, discipline, leadership, and resilience. The association strives to identify, nurture, and promote athletic talent within the college, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to engage in sports activities, whether for recreation, fitness, or competitive excellence.

The Athletic Association organizes a diverse range of sports events throughout the academic year, catering to various interests and skill levels. These events promote active participation and healthy competition among students.

  • Inter-Departmental & Intra-College Tournaments: Regular tournaments are held for popular sports like Football, Cricket, Volleyball, and Badminton, fostering camaraderie and competitive spirit among different departments.Various individual and team sports competitions are organized, including Chess, Carrom, Kho-Kho, and Kabaddi, encouraging mass participation.
  • Fitness & Wellness Initiatives: Initiatives like yoga, marathon runs, cycling events, and fitness boot camps are conducted to promote general health and well-being.
  • Sports Workshops & Coaching Camps:To enhance skill sets and encourage specialized training, the association arranges workshops and coaching camps led by PET and athletes in various disciplines throughout the year.
  • Observance of National Sports Day: Dedicated events and activities are conducted on National Sports Day (August 29th) to celebrate the spirit of sports and honor sporting legends.
  • Annual Athletic Meet

The Annual Athletic Meet is the flagship event of the Athletic Association, a much-anticipated spectacle that brings together the entire college community in a celebration of athleticism and sportsmanship. Held traditionally in November/December/January, this grand event features a wide array of track and field events, including:

Key Highlights Include:

  • Track Events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m races, and thrilling Relay races (4x100m, 4x400m) for both men and women.
  • Field Events: Challenging competitions in Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus Throw, and Javelin Throw.
  • Novelty & Fun Events: To encourage maximum participation and foster a festive atmosphere, special events like Tug-of-War, Sack Race, Three-Legged Race, and various fun games for faculty and staff are also organized.
  • Inauguration & Closing Ceremony: The meet begins with a ceremonial march-past by athletes, followed by the hoisting of the college flag and the oath-taking ceremony. It culminates in a grand prize distribution ceremony, where individual champions and winning teams are felicitated for their outstanding achievements and sportsmanship.

The Annual Athletic Meet is not just a competition; it is a celebration of physical endurance, mental fortitude, and the indomitable spirit of our college community.

5. Achievements

The Athletic Association takes immense pride in the numerous achievements of its students and teams at various levels. Our athletes have consistently brought laurels to the college through their exceptional performances.

  • Inter-College Competitions:
    • 2023: Panchami Mallik-Champion (Women Category) in the Intercollege Athletic Meet, Berhampur University
    • 2024: Nirmal Prasad Sahani won Silver and Bronze Medals in Track Events at the Intercollege Athletic Meet, Berhampur University
  • University Level Representation:
    • Several of our athletes have been selected to represent Berhampur University at various State and National level tournaments.
    • Miss Sharmila Pradhan represented the University in Kho-Kho (Women) in 2025 for Eastern Interuniversity Tournaments (Hajaribag Binoba Bhabe University, Jharkhand).
    • Mr. Sanuja Kanhar represented the University in Kho-Kho (Men) in 2024 for Eastern Interuniversity Tournaments (FM University, Balasore).
    • MissAnita Pradhan represented the University in Kho-Kho (Women) in 2024 for Eastern Interuniversity Tournaments (FM University, Balasore).
